Lois McClure Visits Ilion Marina & RV Paark

Mayor Stephens makes presentation to crfew

The majestic 88-foot canal schooner, Lois McClure, visited the Village of Ilion Marina and RV Park on August 5, 2010.ýSeveral hundred visitors had an opportunity to tour the boat and hear about the vital connection boats, such as the Lois McClure, provided in carrying goods throughout the northeastern waterways throughout the 19th century.ýThe Village of Ilion's summer recreation program and summer recreation participants from the City of Little Falls also were provided a special presentation on the boat by its crew.

Village of Ilion Mayor Stephens presented a special proclamation of appreciation to those who made the visit possible and to those who acted as the crew.

The schooner Lois McClure is a full-scale replica of an 1862 sailing canal boat. Constructed in Burlington, Vt. and launched in 2004, the Lois McClure is an exact recreation of canal schooners found shipwrecked in the waters of Lake Champlain.

The National Parks Service is partnering with the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, the New York State Canal Corporation, and the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor to sponsor this year's tour.ýThe "Our Shared Heritage: World Canals Tour" is also made possible thanks to additional funding support from voyage sponsors, such as Cabot Creameries.
