Christmas In Ilion We hope that everyone had an opportunity to take part in one of the activities sponsored by the Christmas in Ilion volunteer committee. Mayor Stephens and the entire Village Board wish to extend their sincere thanks to those who made this week such a memorable one for all. The Village also sends its condolences to the family of Carmen Denicola, who has served as a co-chair of this committee for several years; Carmen passed away just after the start of activities. The week's activities were dedicated in his memory.

Herkimer County Community College , area fire and police departments and the military joined with the Ilion Fire Department a Remembrance Ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of the events of September 11, 2011 at a special event held at the Village of Ilion Fire Station, 1 Central Avenue, Ilion. Master of Ceremonies was Steve McMurray, WKTV news director. There were a variety of guest speakers who spoke about that day in 2001 and how it has affected everyone's life into 2011. The highlight of the event was the unveiling of a steel girder from the World Trade Center Twin Towers which has been mounted in front of the Ilion firehouse. The girder was presented to the Ilion Fire Department in recognition of their personnel who responded to the emergency in NY City on September 11th. A very special thank you to the volunteer members of the Ilion Days Committee is being extended to all who made the week-long celebration such fun and memorable for all. Maybe one found fabulous items during the community wide garage sales, or gave some much needed blood during the blood drive.One might also have taken in a concert or participated with the Mutt Dog Show.Frogs were jumping and laughter abound throughout the Central Plaza area for the annual Frog Jumping Contest. Very successful was the 25th celebration of the Do Dah parade with thousands lining the streets to watch and still many others participating in the parade itself. Maybe you enjoyed the beautiful fireworks display. No matter what part you may have taken part with, the entire week's celebration was a very successful tribute to the spirit of the Village of Ilion.
