The village of Ilion Police Department consists of 18 full-time sworn police officers and 2 full-time civilian police dispatchers, providing continuous police service 24 hours a day. Our primary concern is the safety and welfare of the residents of the community, and those who choose to visit us.

Our officers are trained in many fields including specialized drug enforcement, D.A.R.E., firearms, sexual assault & abuse investigations, evidence collection, radar, breathalyzer operation, domestic dispute resolution, community policing, as well as many other specialized areas.

We currently provide continuous patrols within the Village of Ilion by use of marked and unmarked police vehicles, four-wheel drive vehicles, bicycles and foot patrols. As a service oriented police department, officers handle a wide range of calls including criminal and accident investigations, special event details, business escorts to the bank, business and residential security checks, motor vehicle lock-outs, and many other community related services. The Ilion Police Department also over-sees a neighborhood watch program which was started in 1997. Our D.A.R.E. program has been in our local schools since 1991, and is staffed by certified D.A.R.E. officers who instruct in grades K through 12.

The Village of Ilion Police Department patrols over 29.5 miles of streets, as well as a large park facility and other private properties. Our community has approximately 9,000 residents, and the largest employer in Herkimer County (Remington Arms Company.)
