Russell Park Playground has had a make-over recently. In September 2013 the Village was the recipient of a $10,500 grant from Herkimer County HealthNet to install new equipment at the playground. The Village matched the funds by providing in-kind service to complete the replacement of the equipment which dated back to the mid 60's. Members of the Village's Parks and Recreation Commission were instrumental in the project from start to finish. Playground equipment includes Freddy the Fire Truck, Bernie Bus, Play Dozer, and Vaquero and Stationary buttons. The project is funded by the NYS Department of Health, Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work, and Play grant administered by the Herkimer County HealthNet. Because of delays caused by the flooding in 2013, full completion of the project was achieved this summer. The picture on the left shows members of the Parks & Recreation Commission (PRC), Herkimer County HealthNet (HCH) and members of the Village's Board (VB) as follows: Front: Kari Slaughter (PRC), Mayor Terry Leonard, Allison Swartz (HCH) Fred Hartmann (VB) Back: Les Stephens (PRC), Joanne Moore (VB)
